Visiting a traditional colombian market in Medellín

This week our students visited La América, Plaza de Mercado, where we explored a traditional Colombian market and were able to taste many of the exotic fruits that Colombia is famous for.

For the majority of our students visiting Colombia, the fruits here are like nothing they have ever seen before. In addition to the common fruits most people from the US and Europe are familiar with, Colombia is home to many exotic fruits, that for a person from the northern hemisphere, can be a bit mind boggling.

Fruits we tasted at the market include, el lulo, tomate de arbol, el mamoncillo, el maracuyá, ciruela criolla, and la granadilla. The students enjoyed trying the exotic fruits, though some found certain fruits to be more tasty than others!

We concluded our trip to the market at by visiting the natural juice stand, which is only fitting, as Colombia consumes the largest amount of natural fruit juices in the world!
